The following guidelines, except for a few additional comments in parentheses from Steve & Joella, are taken from the Mountain Light brochure. While having an enjoyable afternoon and evening, let's also tread lightly on the atmosphere and grounds of the sanctuary and respect the wishes of its steward.

We try to live in a way which is respectful of one another, the Earth, our neighbors and our community life. To this end, we invite you to be mindful of the following guidelines:

  • In order to insure the privacy of guests, residents, and neighbors, please do not venture onto the private property which borders the south and west sides of the Sanctuary.
  • We endeavor to live in harmony with the land and at peace with all creation. Please help us respect the life of the animals, plants and insects.
  • Please respect the land and help us keep it free of trash and debris. We especially ask smokers to properly dispose of filters. (The wedding is a non-smoking event. Please see the Caveats/Rules page.)
  • In order to maintain a quiet and peaceful atmosphere, we ask that radios, TVs, firearms, weapons and illegal drugs not be brought into the Sanctuary.
  • In respect for our neighbors and other residents, we observe quiet time after sundown, requesting that sounds (music, conversations, etc.) be kept within the immediate area of ones personal space. (Umm, please see Steve for musical exceptions to this rule...)

We recycle! There are separate baskets for different types of items. (During the wedding, we will provide additional containers for trash and recyclable items.)

Our water comes from a small spring on the mountainside and is gravity fed into the house. It's great water so you can drink directly out of the tap. It isn't necessary to bring bottled water. (PLEASE: On the day of the wedding we MUST do our best to conserve water. There is one toilet on the ground floor of the lodge. We are asking everyone except our parents and grandparents to please use the outdoor composting toilet.)

When using the composting toilet, please cover everything, including the paper you have used, with the sawdust provided. Also, in order not to over tax the septic tank, we invite men to urinate outside. (On the day of the wedding, make sure you find a nice private spot if you decide to do this!)
